The Eliot Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to The Eliot Hotel on Commonwealth Avenue, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical chain property. This five-star boutique gem sits perfectly in Boston’s elegant Back Bay neighborhood, and honestly — the location alone makes it worth considering. I mean, you’re literally steps from Newbury Street shopping and the Public Garden, but tucked away enough that you won’t hear traffic all night.
The Neighborhood Advantage
What I love about staying here is how walkable everything becomes. You can stroll to the Boston Common in about ten minutes, hit the trendy shops on Newbury Street in five, or grab dinner in the South End without needing a cab. The Back Bay area has this perfect mix of historic charm and modern energy — tree-lined streets with those classic Victorian brownstones, but also some of the city’s best restaurants within a few blocks. Couples especially seem to get this location (they rate it incredibly high), and I can see why.
Luxury in the Details
The moment you step into your room, you realize this place takes comfort seriously. Those beds everyone raves about? They’re actually as good as advertised — I’m talking about the kind of sleep where you wake up wondering why your mattress at home feels like concrete. The rooms have this sophisticated European feel, with rich fabrics and thoughtful touches that make the space feel more like an upscale residence than a hotel. Each suite comes with a separate living area, which honestly makes all the difference when you want to spread out or have a quiet morning coffee.
Dining and Amenities
The continental and buffet breakfast options work well, though I’d actually recommend exploring some of the incredible cafes nearby — part of the fun of staying here is being so close to Boston’s amazing food scene. The hotel’s restaurant, Clio, serves modern French cuisine that’s genuinely impressive (though you’ll want to make reservations). There’s also a small fitness center and business facilities, but let’s be honest — you’re probably here for the location and the luxury experience, not to spend time in a hotel gym.
Why Guests Love It
What sets The Eliot apart is how it manages to feel both grand and intimate. You get all the luxury amenities and impeccable service you’d expect from a five-star property, but without that overwhelming, impersonal feeling of larger hotels. The staff actually remembers your name, and the concierge gives recommendations that feel genuine rather than scripted. Plus, having such an outstanding location score means you can walk to most of Boston’s highlights — the Freedom Trail, Fenway Park, Harvard Square — without dealing with the hassle of downtown traffic or parking nightmares. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re living in Boston rather than just visiting it.

The Eliot is a terrific hotel with old school charm in a brilliant location and within walking distance of many attractions, bars and restaurants. The room was extremely clean, cosy and comfortable and was a delight to return to each day having been cleaned, replenished and even turned down in the evening. Nardine on reception was a joy to talk to and helped us out with recommendations and directions.

We enjoyed staying at a very traditional "English Style" hotel. Exceptionally located as it is facing the beautiful Commonwealth Ave and it is just half a block from Newbury St. with all its shops and restaurants.
