InterContinental Boston, an IHG Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking into the InterContinental Boston, an IHG Hotel, you immediately get that “this is serious luxury” feeling — and I mean that in the best way possible. The lobby has this sophisticated energy that somehow manages to feel welcoming rather than intimidating. What struck me right away was how the staff seemed to genuinely know what they were doing, not just going through the motions you sometimes see at other five-star properties. The whole place has this polished but lived-in quality that tells you it’s been perfecting the hospitality game for years.
Location & Neighborhood
Honestly, the location is pretty much unbeatable if you want to actually experience Boston rather than just stay somewhere in Boston. You’re right in the Financial District on Atlantic Avenue, which means the harbor is basically at your doorstep — and I’m talking about legitimate waterfront views, not some distant glimpse between buildings. The Freedom Trail runs practically past the front door, so you can walk to Faneuil Hall in about three minutes. What couples seem to love (and the 9.6 location rating from couples backs this up) is that you can stroll to the North End for dinner, catch a show in the Theater District, or just wander along the harbor without needing rideshares or dealing with the T.
The Rooms
The rooms live up to that “very comfy beds” reputation they’ve earned — and honestly, after trying mattresses at way too many hotels, I can tell you that’s not something every place gets right. The harbor-facing rooms are worth the upgrade if you can swing it, because watching the sunrise over Boston Harbor from bed is sort of magical. The bathrooms feel genuinely spacious (not just “hotel spacious”), and there’s actually enough counter space for two people to get ready without playing Tetris with their toiletries. Small thing, but the blackout curtains actually work, which matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to sleep off jet lag.
Dining & Amenities
Breakfast here covers all the bases — they do both Continental and American options, so whether you want something light or you’re the type who needs actual eggs and bacon to start the day, you’re covered. The fitness center is well-equipped without being overwhelming, and the business facilities actually function properly if you’re one of those people who can’t completely disconnect from work. They have parking on-site too, which in Boston is basically like finding a unicorn — sure, you’ll pay for it, but at least you won’t spend your vacation circling blocks looking for a spot.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both premium and practical. You get the luxury experience — the attentive service, the quality amenities, the prime location — but it doesn’t feel like you’re paying extra just for show. The 8.7 rating reflects what you actually experience: a hotel that delivers on its promises without the pretense. Whether you’re here for business, a romantic weekend, or just want a really solid base for exploring Boston, the InterContinental gets the fundamentals right while adding those touches that make you remember why you chose to stay somewhere special in the first place.

The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable (as was the whole hotel). Breakfasts were excellent; I particularly liked the wide selection of fresh fruits and juices. The location was on a waterfront with most of central Boston within walking distance. Hotel staff were excellent without exception.
