Sonder The Magnolia Overview
First Impressions
Sonder The Magnolia sits right on Newbury Street, and honestly, you can’t ask for a better spot in Boston. This three-star property feels more like a collection of stylish apartments than a traditional hotel — which is exactly what Sonder does best. The moment you walk up to 234 Newbury, you’re in the heart of Back Bay’s shopping and dining scene, with the Public Garden just a few blocks away.
The Space
What I love about this place is how each apartment feels like your own little Boston home. The units come with full kitchens (not just those tiny hotel kitchenettes), which means you can actually cook if you want to — or just store all the amazing takeout from the neighborhood. The design is clean and modern without being cold, and the windows are big enough to give you a real sense of the city outside. You know what’s nice? There’s actual counter space and a proper dining area, so you’re not eating off the bed like in most hotel rooms.
Location Magic
Here’s the thing about staying on Newbury Street — you’re literally in the middle of everything that makes Boston’s Back Bay special. Copley Square is a five-minute walk, the Green Line is right there when you need it, and you’ve got everything from high-end boutiques to casual cafes right outside your door. I mean, you can grab coffee at Thinking Cup, browse the shops, and still make it to the Museum of Fine Arts without breaking a sweat. The couples who stay here get it — there’s something romantic about strolling down these tree-lined streets, especially in the evening when the brownstones are all lit up.
Practical Perks
Sonder’s whole thing is giving you the independence of an apartment with hotel-level cleanliness, and they nail it here. Check-in is contactless (which honestly makes everything smoother), and if you need anything, their app-based support actually works. The building itself is well-maintained — you’re not dealing with sketchy elevators or weird smells in the hallways. One heads up though: parking in this area can be tricky, so if you’re driving, factor that in. Most guests I’ve talked to either use rideshares or just walk everywhere, which is totally doable from this spot.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back is that perfect balance of location and space. You get to live like a local in one of Boston’s most desirable neighborhoods, but without the hassle of actually finding and booking a short-term rental. The fact that couples rate this place so highly tells you something — it’s got that cozy, intimate vibe that makes you want to linger over morning coffee and plan your day exploring the city. Plus, when you’re staying right on Newbury Street, you’re not just visiting Boston — you’re experiencing one of its most iconic areas from the inside out.
Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Boston before holiday lights drape Faneuil Hall and skating rinks glow.

It was well sized space with a comfortable bed and good storage for hanging clothes. Clean and well furnished with lovely bathroom products. The location was perfect and the apartment was quiet even though the street below was busy.

Susan from United States (7/10)
The location of the apartment was perfect–smack dab in the middle of Newbury Street, among the shops and restaurants, in walking distance to Fenway Park. The bed was super comfortable, and the apartment was huge and perfectly furnished. The amenities were great, the instructions were clear, and there was tons of space.
Laith from Saudi Arabia (9/10)

Everything, except for the curtain, which was not blackout
Elizabeth from United States (8/10)
Loved having a washing machine. The place was clean and having a supply of coffee for a few days was nice. The kitchen had plates and a tiny dishwasher and it was quiet on the fourth floor. The location was within walking distance of everything and felt safe.
Can from United States (9/10)
wonderful room except for the noise. it is in one of the best streets, so it is always busy and noisy.
