Pennyweight Hotel Boston, Curio Collection by Hilton Overview

First Impressions

Walking into the Pennyweight Hotel Boston, Curio Collection by Hilton feels like discovering one of those perfectly placed gems that locals somehow keep to themselves. This four-star property sits right on Portland Street in the West End, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better — you’re basically in the sweet spot between downtown’s energy and the quieter residential charm that makes Boston so livable. The building itself has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream for attention, which I actually appreciate in a city where so many hotels try too hard.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I love about staying here — you can walk to TD Garden in about five minutes, which means Celtics games, concerts, whatever’s happening there is practically next door. The North End is just across the way, so those incredible Italian places on Hanover Street are totally walkable. I mean, you could easily hit Modern Pastry for cannoli after dinner without needing an Uber. The parking situation is handled on-site, which honestly saves you from the nightmare of finding street parking in this part of town (trust me on this one).

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was surprisingly spacious for Boston standards — you know how these older cities can be with cramped quarters. But what really stood out were the beds, and I’m not just saying that because I’m getting older and pickier about sleep. They’ve clearly invested in quality mattresses and bedding, the kind that makes you want to hit snooze one more time. The windows are well-insulated too, which matters when you’re this close to the action but still want a decent night’s rest.

Dining & Amenities

The breakfast setup leans American — think well-executed classics rather than anything too fancy or experimental. It’s the kind of spread that actually fuels you for a day of walking around the city, which is what you want. The restaurant has this relaxed vibe that works whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a proper meal. What I found refreshing is that they don’t try to be everything to everyone — they do what they do well and leave it at that.

Why Guests Love It

Look, couples especially seem to get what this place is about — there’s something about the combination of location and comfort that just works for a romantic getaway or weekend escape. You’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the tourist chaos of Faneuil Hall and the Common. The staff actually knows the neighborhood and can point you toward things you might miss otherwise. It’s one of those places where you feel like you’re staying somewhere that Bostonians would actually choose for themselves, which is honestly the best compliment I can give any hotel in this city.

The facility was clean, had recently been renovated. Front desk staff very friendly and helpful. In a great location for the train (north station) and TD gardens. A bit out of the way of restaurants and sightseeing.

Location was very good. The bed was very comfortable, however when I loosen the covers, the bottom sheet comes loose, and bunches up underneath me – this is because it is not a fitted sheet. I strongly recommend the use of fitted bottom sheets – otherwise it really can interfere with a good nights sleep (I don't sleep like a packaged cheese slice). Also, I really appreciate having a microwave in the room in addition to the mini-fridge – I use these a lot.
