Harborside Inn Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to the Harborside Inn on State Street, you immediately get that classic Boston vibe — this three-star boutique property sits right in the Financial District, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better. The building itself has this charming historic feel that you’d expect from a city like Boston, but what really struck me was how perfectly positioned it is. I mean, you’re literally steps away from Faneuil Hall and the waterfront, which is pretty incredible for a hotel at this price point.
The Location Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying here — you can walk to basically everything that matters in downtown Boston. The Freedom Trail runs right past your door, and the harbor is maybe a three-minute stroll away. What’s really nice is that couples seem to absolutely love this spot (they rate the location 9.5, which honestly makes total sense when you experience it). You’ve got the North End’s Italian restaurants within walking distance, plus all those cobblestone streets and historic sites that make Boston special. The Financial District might sound all business-y, but it’s actually perfect because you get the energy during the day and it quiets down nicely at night.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully designed — you know, that efficient Boston style where every square foot counts. The windows offered nice views of the surrounding historic buildings, and the bed was surprisingly comfortable for a three-star property. What I appreciated was the attention to detail in the furnishings; nothing felt cheap or rushed. The bathroom was clean and modern, which is always a relief in older Boston buildings where you sometimes get those quirky plumbing situations.
Practical Considerations
One thing to keep in mind — parking in this area can be tricky (welcome to Boston), but honestly, you probably won’t need a car anyway. The T’s Blue and Orange lines are super accessible, and most of what you’ll want to see is walkable. The staff here actually knows the neighborhood well, which is refreshing; they can point you toward the best spots without that generic tourist spiel. I found them genuinely helpful when I was trying to figure out the best route to Cambridge one afternoon.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is that perfect balance of location, character, and value. You’re getting that authentic Boston experience without paying those ridiculous rates you’d find at the bigger chain hotels nearby. The 8.2 rating makes sense when you factor in the incredible location score — seriously, being this close to the harbor, the Freedom Trail, and all those great North End restaurants is worth a lot. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in the heart of the city rather than just visiting it, if that makes sense.

Location was fantastic. The front desk staff was professional, friendly and very knowledgeable.

Room was large for city hotels. Desk clerks were very helpful. Great location.
Restaurant attached to the hotel was abysmal. Pasta was chewy and had no flavor. Crostini, well I don’t know what to say. One had a bland flavorless cheese on it, one red peppers with two spots of balsamic on it, the last one we weren’t sure what it was but it tasted terrible. My husband is a big eater and he didn’t finish the pasta it was so bad and I left 2 1/2 of the crostini. When I told the waitress how bad it was, she offered 20% off, which is what we would have gotten for staying at the hotel. Wouldn’t recommend it. We went to the corner market for snacks because we were too tired to go anywhere else.Kay from United States (9/10)
Nice hotel in a perfect location. Staff took great care of us, our luggage, and finding us a nice upper floor room as requested. Very quiet area, spacious room, comfortable bed, large shower, and good internet service were all positives for our stay.
