Harborside Inn Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to the Harborside Inn on State Street, you immediately get that classic Boston vibe — it’s tucked right into the Financial District’s historic streetscape, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better. This three-star property doesn’t try to be something it’s not, which I actually appreciate. The building has character without being stuffy, and you can tell they’ve put thought into maintaining that New England charm while keeping things modern enough for today’s travelers.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about staying in Boston’s Financial District — you’re literally in the middle of everything that matters. From the Harborside Inn, you can walk to Faneuil Hall in about five minutes, and the harbor itself is right there (hence the name, obviously). I mean, couples consistently rate this location a 9.6, and after spending time in the area, I totally get why. You’ve got the Freedom Trail practically at your doorstep, plus all those great North End restaurants are just a short stroll away. The T access is solid too, so you’re not stuck if you want to venture out to Cambridge or other neighborhoods.
The Rooms
The rooms at Harborside Inn are what I’d call thoughtfully compact — they’ve made smart use of the space without making you feel cramped. You know how some Boston hotels can feel like glorified closets? This isn’t that. The beds are comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are updated enough that you’re not dealing with ancient plumbing. What really struck me was how they’ve managed to incorporate some maritime touches without going overboard with the nautical theme — it feels authentic to the location rather than forced.
Amenities & Service
Look, this is a three-star hotel, so don’t expect a spa or multiple restaurants, but what they do offer works well. The front desk staff actually knows the neighborhood — they can point you toward that little coffee shop around the corner or tell you which direction to head for the best harbor views. There’s WiFi that actually works (always a relief), and they’ve got that 24-hour front desk thing down pat. The fitness center is basic but functional, which honestly is all most people need when they’re spending their days walking around Boston anyway.
Why Guests Love It
The real draw here is that unbeatable location combined with solid value for money. You’re paying for prime Boston real estate without the premium hotel prices, and that math works out pretty well for most travelers. Couples especially seem to love it — probably because you can walk to romantic dinner spots in the North End, catch sunset views by the harbor, and still be close enough to duck back to the room between activities. It’s the kind of place where you spend your days exploring the city and your evenings appreciating that you don’t have to trek across town to get back to your comfortable base.
To book hotel in Boston for Head of the Charles, travelers secure river-view suites with regatta balconies.

Location was fantastic. The front desk staff was professional, friendly and very knowledgeable.

Room was large for city hotels. Desk clerks were very helpful. Great location.
Restaurant attached to the hotel was abysmal. Pasta was chewy and had no flavor. Crostini, well I don’t know what to say. One had a bland flavorless cheese on it, one red peppers with two spots of balsamic on it, the last one we weren’t sure what it was but it tasted terrible. My husband is a big eater and he didn’t finish the pasta it was so bad and I left 2 1/2 of the crostini. When I told the waitress how bad it was, she offered 20% off, which is what we would have gotten for staying at the hotel. Wouldn’t recommend it. We went to the corner market for snacks because we were too tired to go anywhere else.Kay from United States (9/10)
Nice hotel in a perfect location. Staff took great care of us, our luggage, and finding us a nice upper floor room as requested. Very quiet area, spacious room, comfortable bed, large shower, and good internet service were all positives for our stay.
